A new beginning
Welcome to Tibbie, my new social media scheduling app. Or, more accurately, my plan for a social media scheduling app. I’ve been toying with this idea for a long time now, and I’ve finally taken the plunge to start building it.
It’s not a novel idea by any means, but I do believe there’s a demand for simple, intuitive apps that let you post to your social media accounts without any of the extra bloat (and the extra cost). No fluff, a dead-simple UI, and affordable pricing. That’s what I’m going for.
I’ve been a developer for over a decade, and I’ve built multiple social media tools during that time. In 2021 I built Social Image Generator, a WordPress plugin that automatically created social images for your posts. This plugin was acquired by Automattic, where I joined and helped found the Jetpack Social team. More recently, I built the Autoblue plugin that automatically shares your posts to Bluesky.
Goals
Tibbie feels like the natural progression of my experience in this space, and my first non-WordPress product. Some things I’m going for, in no particular order:
- A dead-simple, intuitive interface. You sign up and 2 minutes later you’re connected and have your first post scheduled.
- Affordable pricing. You’re a creator, or a small team starting out. No need to pay $30/month for yet another tool.
- Trust. Everything about Tibbie should give you the feeling that it is a product you can trust. No weird error messages or unresponsive buttons, vibe-coded in a weekend. The little details matter.
- A feeling of authenticity. I want customers to know and appreciate that Tibbie is a one-man product. You won’t be talking to a chatbot or a customer service rep, but directly to me.
- A little whimsy. The app should be fun to use, with delightful little interactions. Scheduling shouldn’t feel like another tedious task you just have to do.
- AI, but make it thoughtful. The most important tool in your arsenal is your own voice. AI in Tibbie will help you share your voice with the world, but it will not replace it.
(I actually feel really strongly about this last one. Everything I write is my own writing)
This list might change over time, but it does capture the mindset that I have going into this project.
Build in public
I absolutely love following indie makers and builders who share their journey publicly, and I want to do the same with Tibbie. This journal will be my way of sharing my progress with you. Wins, losses, MRR, newsletter subscribers, technical challenges, design decisions, and everything in between.
At the time of writing this, all the numbers in the little dashboard above are zeroes. Let’s see where we’re at in a year from now.
It’s going to be a hell of a journey, and I’d love to have you along for the ride. If you want to follow my progress, follow me on X and subscribe to my newsletter.
